Not Just an Exit Sign?

Emergency lighting fills the need for visual evacuation guidance in case of a power outage, fire, evacuation or emergency event. A well-designed, functional emergency lighting system is essential for the safety of people in your building. Aside from the familiar overhead EXIT signs, flood lights, stairwell lighting and floor-level lighting are often incorporated as parts of effective emergency lighting systems.

There are two main considerations that make emergency lighting different from normal lighting:

  • Emergency lighting should operate for two hours without mains power, usually by way of battery back-up.
  • Emergency lighting is positioned in the building for pure safety functionality. The layout and specifications should be determined by a professional.
