It wasn’t long ago that ‘home automation’ meant an integrated oven-timer, or a garage door opener button. Many of us have grown up with the idea that more-involved home automation is cutting-edge stuff, with an associated hefty price tag. But so much has changed.
Home automation systems today are becoming standard modern conveniences. As the technology has progressed, prices have come down considerably making owning your own ‘smart home system’ much more affordable.
A smart home system is the broad term for the collection of things that can respond to your commands or presence. Your smart home might include your outdoor lights, garden irrigation, security system, heating, doors, gates, zoned interior lighting, TV, multi-roomed audio, bedside lamps, intercom… the list goes on. It’s possible to directly control each one of these individually from your phone or smart home system control device.
